Volunteer Opportunities
The Great Valley public schools value and encourage our parents and community members to volunteer in our schools. There are many volunteer opportunities available through the school, classroom teacher, PTO, or the Senior Citizens' Volunteer Program.
Volunteer Classifications
Tier I Volunteers
Tier I volunteers are those volunteers who will be individually responsible for the welfare of a child or children, or who will have direct contact with a child or children. This means they will be involved directly with the care, supervision, guidance, or control of children, or will have routine interaction with children. Tier I volunteers are required to obtain clearances every 60 months before working in our schools.
Tier II Volunteers
Tier II volunteers are those volunteers who will not be providing care, supervision, guidance, or control of children, or who will not have routine interaction with children. Examples of volunteers include guest readers, classroom party helpers, attendees at performances, etc.
Legal guidance is available to help determine which volunteers need to obtain clearances.
Senior Citizens' Volunteer Program (Rebate Program)
In exchange for service in the schools, residents aged 60 or older can receive a rebate on their property taxes, which is paid through direct deposit for hours worked in our schools. The program's purpose is to provide senior citizens with some relief from property tax through rebate. In addition, it helps our students by supplying volunteer support. Residents who are interested in participating in this program should visit the Senior Citizens' Volunteer Program page as the applications and clearance submission for this program are different from other volunteer programs. Participants in this program must obtain the same clearances required for a Tier I volunteer ( described above).
Required Clearances
Tier I volunteers and volunteers enrolled in our Senior Citizen Tax Rebate Program are required to obtain legal clearances every 60 months.
