WOB - September 8

Good evening students and families!

I hope everyone is having a smooth transition back to school!  I've really enjoyed getting to know the new faces here in GVMS Orchestras, as well as catching up with the familiar ones ... it looks like we're in for an amazing year!

Below is the WOB for this week.  As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!

A reminder of our new schedule ...  As a reminder, with our new music schedule, students should be sure to have their instruments for both Ensemble Rehearsals and String Tech classes.  Below is when you will need your instrument:

Day 1 - 7th & 8th Grade students (Symphonic Orchestra)
Day 2 - 7th & 8th Grade students (Symphonic Orchestra)
Day 3 - Students in Chamber Orchestra
Day 4 - Students in Chamber Orchestra
Day 5 - 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade students (All String Tech Classes & String Orchestra)
Day 6 - 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade students (All String Tech Classes & String Orchestra)

If you have any questions about how the new schedule works, please feel free to reach out!
Lesson Books:  Please work on purchasing a copy of our lesson book for this year, String Basics by Terry Shade.  8th grade students should get Book 3 (green), 6th & 7th grade students should get Book 2 (blue).  They are in-stock at Music & Arts in Exton, or you can purchase a copy online ... whichever you prefer!
Have any Instrument Issues?  Over the next week or so, I'll be giving a once-over to everyone's instruments looking for any issues and checking for instrument sizing.  If you rent from Music & Arts or Zeswitz, we can take care of any issues right here in school!  Both companies send representatives to GVMS each week, and we can take care of any repairs, switching instrument sizes, etc. through those reps.  As always, please let me know if you have any questions about renting/repairing/purchasing instruments or supplies!
Course Descriptions:  A copy of our Course Description should have made it's way home last week.  If you'd like another copy (or if it did not, in fact, make it home!), you can find another copy on my teacher page!
Orchestra Gear:  In each Course Description, you'll find a list of recommended "Orchestra Gear" for students.  This list is not, by any means, a requirement ... but the items listed are what I consider to be "most important" gear for students to be successful.  If you have any questions about what to buy, where to buy it, or what brands may be best, please feel free to reach out!
Private Lessons:  All middle school students should seriously consider taking private lessons outside of school.  The benefits of private study can be seen in school orchestra/lessons, as well as in improved responsibility, time management, and love for music!  I have a list of local private teachers that I would be happy to share with anyone who is interested.  Please contact me if you are interested or have any questions!
Orchestra Schedule:  The Orchestra schedule for this week is as follows ......
   Monday (Day 3): Chamber Orchestra
   Tuesday (Day 4): Chamber Orchestra
Wednesday (Day 5): String Tech (6/7/8) & String Orchestra
Thursday (Day 6):  String Tech (6/7/8) & String Orchestra
   Friday (Day 1): Symphonic Orchestra
Have a great week!
Mr. Cellini
