Dear Parents/Guardians,

On June 4, the Great Valley School District was pleased to host a panel discussion that was designed to begin conversations in our district about diversity and inclusion. The discussion laid the groundwork by establishing a common understanding about how our demographics are changing and how our population of learners is growing. If you were unable to attend and are interested in seeing the panel discussion, it is available on our website.

The next step in this work to ensure that all students feel welcome and engaged in our schools is the formation of the Great Valley Council for Diversity and Inclusion (GVCDI). This council will serve as a steering committee for our work next year. Members of the council will identify topics for consideration related to student belonging and will then drive the development of subcommittees who will focus their efforts on the identified areas.

Parents who are interested in becoming a member of the GVCDI are encouraged to submit an application. We will use those applications to form a steering committee that represents the diversity we see in our schools. Those not invited to join the steering committee may be invited to join subcommittees. The deadline for submitting an application is July 1.

More information about the GVCDI is available on our website. We look forward to working with our community to increase every student’s feelings of belonging and engagement in our schools.
