GVHS Earns Top Place in Safe Driving Video Contest

Great Valley High School was named the first place winner in NJM Insurance Group’s (NJM) “Just Drive” public service announcement (PSA) video contest. The contest, held in partnership with the Pennsylvania DUI Association (PA DUI), welcomed high schools from across the region to submit a 30-second video outlining the danger of distracted driving, an epidemic that continues to plague our nation’s roadways. The winning schools received funds toward a post-prom, post-graduation, or safe driving program. Students from 34 Pennsylvania high schools created videos. Great Valley High School won first place with its PSA that was produced by TV Studio Director Kevin Fitzpatrick and four students: Juniors Isaiah Cunningham and Jacob Hoover, Senior Jacob Mingis, and Sophomore Sarah Liu. Their video highlighted how a one-second decision to check your phone or tune the radio while driving can have devastating lifelong consequences.

“Our PSA contest empowers teens to work together to develop compelling safety campaigns and encourage each other and their peers to ‘just drive,’” said Tracy McManimon, NJM senior vice president and chief underwriting officer.

The winners were announced in conjunction with Distracted Driving Awareness Month and celebrated with a screening party at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA. Attendees had the opportunity to view all three winning entries, alongside a montage of all 34 entries.

“I was really impressed with the students who worked on this project with me,” said Fitzpatrick. “They were thoughtful about the video itself, and then conducted themselves professionally at the awards ceremony. They represented Great Valley High School in the very best way.”
