New Program Will Recognize GVSD Student Artists
Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, Great Valley School District (GVSD) students will have the opportunity to enter an art competition offered through a partnership between The Great Valley School District Education Foundation (GVSDEF) and GVSD art teachers. The program – called SOAR (Students’ Opportunity for Artist Recognition) – encourages students to develop their creative skills and display their exceptional art projects, and was designed to shine a light on the talents of the district’s art students. The program will be open to GVSD students enrolled in grades 5, 8, and 12.
To encourage wider participation by students, SOAR will mimic an actual art competition, including a Call for Entries, a theme, parameters for the product, and a juried selection process by a well-known artist from the community. Art teachers will promote the program directly to their students during the school year.
The outside artist will select one eligible student from each elementary school, two students from the eighth grade, and two students from the twelfth grade. As an award, student artists will receive a selection of materials appropriate to their medium and age (or gift card), a framed certificate, and publication in the District and Foundation media. Student works will also be exhibited in the GVSD Art Show at Great Valley High School. GVSD and GVSDEF will partner in hosting a reception for awarded students, their families, and others toward the end of the school year.
