GVSD VIRTUAL DESKTOP for Students - INSTRUCTIONSBefore you can use GVSD Virtual Desktop from home, you must install the Virtual Desktop (VMWare) client software on their home computer/laptop. Here's how:SETTING UP THE VIRTUAL DESKTOP SOFTWARE AND LOGGING ON FROM HOME
Once the VMWare client software is installed on your home computer/laptop you can either click on the VMWare Client icon on your desktop or open your Internet browser and go to https://vdesktop.gvsd.org/ to logon. When you see the page "There is a problem with this site's Security Certificate", just click on "Continue to this website". (Don't worry, this site is secure - we are working on the certificate issue.)
THE FIRST TIME YOU USE THE VIRTUAL DESKTOP CLIENT ON YOUR HOME COMPUTER YOU MUST SET UP YOUR LOGON SETTINGS – check the installation instructions for information on setting up your logon to Virtual Desktop/VMWare.LOGON TO YOUR VIRTUAL DESKTOP
(client software already installed and setup)
Click on the VMWare Client icon on your desktop or use the START menu to find the VMWare client. MAC users will find the VMWare Client in the Applications folder.
If you receive a message about the security certificate, select “Continue to this website”
If you see a window with a “View Client was started successfully” message – just close this window.
A VMware logon window will open –
USERNAME (= your school LOGON)
PASSWORD (= your school password)
the DOMAIN box should display GVSD
PRESS the LOGIN button
Select the virtual desktop choice that you would use at your school, then press the CONNECT button.
When you are successfully logged on to your Virtual Desktop your computer Screen should look just like the computer screens at school when you first logon.
