AP Biology is a course that meets for 8 periods per 6 day cycle, which means twice per 6 day cycle the students meet for a double period. At least 2 periods per cycle will be used to focus on student-led investigative laboratories. The course meets the requirements of an introductory college level course appropriate for biology majors. The framework of AP Biology is based on 4 big ideas:
1. The process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life
2. Biological systems utilize free energy and molecular building blocks to grow, to reproduce and to maintain dynamic homeostasis
3. Living systems store, retrieve, transmit and respond to information essential to life processes4. Biological systems interact, and these systems and their interactions possess complex properties.
