Great Valley School District Appoints New Supervisor of Human Resources

During their regular meeting on May 19, 2025, the Great Valley Board of School Directors approved the appointment of Rithu George as the district's first-ever Supervisor of Human Resources.  

George brings extensive experience in human resources management, talent acquisition, and employee relations to Great Valley. Most recently, she served as Deputy Director of Human Resources for the County of Lancaster, where she managed HR services including training and development, compliance, policy development, and employee relations. 

"We are very excited to welcome Rithu George and add this new position to our administrative team," said Dr. Daniel F. Goffredo, Superintendent of Great Valley School District. "Her wealth of experience in public sector human resources and her proven track record in talent acquisition and development will be tremendously beneficial as we continue to strengthen our workforce and support our staff." 

In her role as Supervisor of Human Resources, George will be responsible for overseeing the district's recruitment efforts, employee relations, HR policy application and compliance, and professional development programs. 

George holds an MBA with a specialization in Human Resources and is certified as a Senior Certified Professional by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-SCP). Her previous experience includes roles with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Norristown Area School District, and various educational institutions. 

"I am deeply passionate about the field of human resources and thrilled to step into this new role," said George. "With a strong background in education and a longstanding connection to the Great Valley community over the past 13 years, I am particularly enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to the district's mission while supporting staff along the way.” 

George's appointment comes as part of the district's ongoing commitment to enhancing its administrative structure to better serve students, staff, and the community. She will begin her role on June 30, 2025. 

GVMS Robotics Team 7517C Wins Inspire Award

Congratulations to GVMS Robotics team 7517C for winning the Inspire Award at the 2025 VEX Robotics Middle School World Championships in Dallas, Texas! The Inspire Award recognizes passion for the competition and positivity at the event, along with communication skills, teamwork, and professionalism. This is the team's second year in a row at Worlds, and the second year in a row winning an award. Congratulations!

 

5/6 Center Teacher Lisa Freeman Receives Phillies All-Star Award!

Congratulations to Great Valley 5/6 Center teacher Lisa Freeman, who was honored as one of the Phillies All-Star Teacher Award recipients! The Philadelphia Phillies recognized 10 exceptional educators from across the region during their Teacher Appreciation Night on Friday, May 2.

Mrs. Freeman was nominated by her former student, Justin, who wrote a compelling essay detailing how she has made a profound and lasting impact on both her students and the entire school community.

We are incredibly proud to have Mrs. Freeman representing GVSD and shaping the bright futures of our students!

Yvonne Westlake Named Manager of the Year

Great Valley School District is thrilled to celebrate Yvonne Westlake, our outstanding High School Cafeteria Manager, on being named Manager of the Year for Pennsylvania by the School Nutrition Association!

This prestigious award, named in honor of Louise Sublette, recognizes school nutrition managers who go above and beyond in creating a positive cafeteria environment, developing their staff, engaging with the community, and showing strong professional involvement. Yvonne truly exemplifies these qualities every day with her leadership, compassion, and dedication to nourishing our students.

Her contributions have made a lasting impact on our school and community, and we are so proud to see her hard work and passion recognized on such a meaningful level.

Great Valley School District Appoints New Middle School Assistant Principal

At their regular meeting on April 21, 2025, the Great Valley School Board approved the appointment of Dr. Andrew S. Dua as the new Assistant Principal at Great Valley Middle School. 

Dr. Dua brings over 14 years of educational experience to Great Valley Middle School. He currently serves as the interim assistant principal at Downingtown Area School District, where he has overseen the 8th grade multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) program and managed student discipline using restorative approaches. 

"I am excited and grateful to join Great Valley School District and be part of this wonderful community," said Dr. Dua. “As the Assistant Principal at Great Valley Middle School, I look forward to meeting and collaborating with staff, students, and parents to continue upholding the excellent traditions and standards that this district provides.” 

Dr. Dua holds a Doctorate of Education from Arcadia University, a Master's in Secondary Education from Holy Family University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Arcadia University. He earned his Pennsylvania Administrative Certification K-12 in November 2020. 

His extensive experience also includes serving as a middle school instructional coach at Downingtown Area School District since 2021, where he has led professional development sessions on topics such as relationship maintenance, incorporating student feedback into daily practice, and promoting instructional practices that facilitate greater student collaboration.  

"His experience aligns perfectly with our district's commitment to supporting the whole child,” said Dr. Daniel F. Goffredo, Superintendent of Great Valley School District. “We're excited to welcome him to our administrative team and know he'll make a positive impact on our middle school community." 

Prior to his administrative roles, Dr. Dua taught Spanish at the middle school level at Downingtown Area School District, Freire Charter Middle School, and West Oak Lane Charter School. He is bilingual in English and Spanish and holds certification as a Spanish medical interpreter. 

 

Child Development Lab Preschool at GVHS

Registration for the 25-26 Great Valley High School Child Development Lab Preschool is now open! Registration will be open from Tuesday, April 22nd to Tuesday, May 13th. In order to be eligible for the Child Development Lab Pre-School, students must be 4 years of age by September 1, 2025. To learn more about this program, please click here.

Great Valley High School 2nd Annual Culture Celebration

On April 4, Great Valley High School held its 2nd annual Culture Celebration Day! Students heard from guest speaker Lamarr Womble, saw dance performances from students from Ecuador, and learned about what makes our community unique. Great job to everyone involved! ClassLink Now Available for All GVSD Families

The ClassLink platform is now available for account registration for all families. As a reminder, ClassLink is a single sign-on (SSO) platform that provides teachers and students with access to all online teaching and learning resources in one place. Please find important details below. 

  • The ClassLink Family Portal offers a single point of access to many of the frequently used applications and sites at GVSD, such as Skyward for Families, PaySchools, Canvas (for grades 5-12), Seesaw (for grades K-4), and more.  

  • The portal will be a tool for managing logins for your online GVSD applications in one location.  

  • All users must set up an account in order to access the ClassLink Family Portal.

High School Teacher Tess Lutz Receives Delaware Valley Excellence in Teaching Award

Congratulations to Great Valley High School teacher Tess Lutz on receiving the Delaware Valley Excellence in Teaching Award! 🎉 This prestigious award, presented by the FMFCU Foundation, recognizes 20 outstanding educators in the Philadelphia region who demonstrate dedication, innovation, and a true impact on their students. Tess's commitment to her students and the Great Valley community shines through and we are so grateful for all that she does!

 

Marching Patriots Earn Their Highest Score Ever and 5th Place in the Nation

On November 2, the Great Valley High School Marching Patriots performed their final field show of the season at MetLife Stadium. The 45-member band competed against 11 schools to earn fifth place in the nation. With a score of 91.2, the performance represents the highest score achieved by the band in Great Valley’s history. In celebration of the accomplishment, local ambulance and fire trucks formed a parade to escort the band on their route through Malvern Borough back to the high school.

Marching Band Director Alex Siwa encouraged everyone at Great Valley High School to “take a moment to recognize and congratulate a Marching Patriot for their tireless dedication to this athletic art form.” He continued to say that “If you have not had the pleasure of seeing our kids perform, please find a time next season to do so. They continue to make our Great Valley community proud and show others what our school has to offer!”

District Welcomes New AD

At its Aug. 19 meeting, the Great Valley Board of School Directors approved the appointment of Jordan Miller as athletic director. Miller will replace Michael Semar, the current athletic director.

Miller most recently served as the assistant principal, K-5, for Renaissance Academy Charter School, where he also previously taught physical education and health. He also previously served as the Athletics Department chair at the Delaware Academy of Public Safety and Security Charter School. Prior to his work in education, Miller was a police officer for the New Castle County Police Department.

“As I step into the role of athletic director,” said Miller, “I’m excited to build upon the legacy of Great Valley High School. My focus will be on empowering athletes to reach their full potential both on and off the field and fostering a supportive environment for the school community. I aim to strengthen our programs and enrich the experience for everyone involved.”

Miller earned his Master of Arts in Education Administration from Point Park University and his Bachelor of Arts in Business Communication from King’s College.

New Special Education Supervisor

At its Aug. 19 meeting, the Great Valley Board of School Directors approved the appointment of Nicole Lombardi as special education supervisor. Lombardi has been a teacher on assignment/special education liaison for the district since Oct. 2022. As a supervisor, she will support special education services at Charlestown Elementary School and Great Valley Middle School.

In her role as special education liaison (teacher on assignment), Lombardi worked with secondary special education teams to support sixth and ninth grades, the Technical College High School, and out-of-district assignments. Previously, she worked in the Great Valley School District as a school-age speech and language pathologist responsible for the evaluation and team implementation of communication systems for nonverbal and limited verbal students across grade levels.

“I am excited to contribute to our Great Valley community by building strong relationships with our students, families, and staff,” said Lombardi. “I am dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment where all parties play an active role in the educational process. Together, we can create an inclusive and empowering experience for all.”

Lombardi, a doctoral candidate in the Education Leadership Program at Immaculata University, earned her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from La Salle University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Language Disabilities from Elmira College. In addition, she holds a Pennsylvania State Teaching Certificate and a Supervisor of Special Education Certificate.

Interim MS Assistant Principal Named

At its Aug. 19 meeting, the Great Valley Board of School Directors approved the appointment of Thomas Mulvey as an interim assistant principal at Great Valley Middle School. Mulvey’s appointment is through Nov. 22. He will support the efforts of Dr. Sharon Cohen, who is serving as the interim principal while the current principal is on leave. 

Mulvey is a recently retired principal. His most current role was in the Sixth Grade Center in Downingtown Area School District, a role he held for ten years. Before that, he was the principal at Downingtown West High School and Downingtown Middle School. He currently serves as the regional support specialist for the Pennsylvania Principals Association. Mulvey says he seeks to use his experience to administratively assist school districts. In previous roles, Mulvey formed and led committees to develop new curricula, programs, and practices. He also created and led staff development opportunities, helped design and supervise Emotional Support, Autistic Support, and Multiple Disabilities programs, and created and led innovative learning practices. He has been a speaker at national and state conferences on topics related to schools and student learning.

“We are looking forward to the contributions that Mr. Mulvey will make to the district and to our middle school,” said Superintendent Daniel Goffredo. “As Dr. Cohen steps into the role of interim principal, Mr. Mulvey’s experience will complement her skills and talents. We are glad to have a strong leadership team in place for the start of the school year.”

Mulvey earned his Master of Arts in Education from West Chester University and his Bachelor of Arts from Pennsylvania State University. He earned his principal certification from Bowie State University.
