The 5/6 Center is scheduled to open in the fall of 2024.

No. We expect the 5/6 Center to operate more on a secondary schedule. This will allow us to stagger traffic on the site during both arrival and dismissal times.

Each grade level "house" has emergency doors that would restrict access in the event of an emergency. This allows us to lock-down areas of the building should that become necessary. In addition, each grade level area has its own set of stairs that provide access to the outside should that become necessary. Also, access between the public areas of the building (gym, music areas, etc) and the instructional parts of the building can be closed down during public events or in the event of an emergency to prevent access.

There will not be playground equipment for the 5/6 Center. There will be open spaces for students to be outside that are separate from the K.D. Markley playground. 

While there aren't any special "green" features (solar, wind, geothermal), the new school does include many features that make it environmentally friendly. Many elements are now required by building codes for new construction.

While we expect the school to open on time in the fall of 2024, we are developing contingency plans should they be needed. If the opening is delayed, but the school is ready a few months later, students will move to the new school mid-year. We would not wait until the following fall to begin utilizing the new school.
