Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Simpkins

It’s hard to believe that this upcoming school year will be my fifteenth year of teaching already!

I graduated from West Chester University in 2008 with a degree in Elementary Education, including a minor in Mathematics. My teaching career began with a surprise as I started off in first grade, an age I never imagined teaching! While this came as a shock at first, I am so thankful for the opportunity to have worked with primary aged students because it helped me to grow in so many ways as a teacher, specifically sparking an interest in furthering my expertise in literacy instruction. This inspired me to pursue my Master’s Degree in Literacy from West Chester University, which I completed in 2012.

In 2011 I was beyond excited to be given an opportunity to teach fourth grade, the grade I had always imagined myself teaching. The chance to share my love of American history, children’s literature, and Mathematical problem solving with my students is one that I am thankful for every day.

This year, I am excited to change gears and step outside of the traditional classroom and begin my role as the Intervention Specialist. In this role I will be able to support students in both Language Arts and Math instruction.

Outside of the curriculum, I am an active runner, self-proclaimed foodie (hence the running), and music enthusiast. I am also a dad to our daughter Fern and our son Judah.
