    Good evening students and families!

Below is the WOB for this week.  As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!

Music & Arts Open House:  Music & Arts is having an Open House for private lessons from January 24-26.  If you're interested in starting private instruction outside of school, this is a great opportunity to meet some of the teachers at the Exton store and ask any questions you may have!   More information can be found here!

I highly recommend that all middle school students should seriously consider taking private lessons outside of school!  The benefits of private study can be seen in school orchestra/lessons, as well as in improved responsibility, time management, and love for music!  I have a list of local private teachers that I would be happy to share with anyone who is interested.  Please contact me if you are interested or have any questions!

Festival Participants:  Students participating in SVAO, 5/6 String Fest, or 7/8 String Fest ... I've updaded my teacher page with links for you to listen to all of the music for your festival!  Listening to these pieces can defintely help speed up the learning process and help you understand your part better ... check them out here!

Cold Weather Alert!  We've hit that time of year where temperatures are dropping and string players are opening their cases to find woefully out-of-tune instruments!  Please remember that your instruments are extremely sensitive to the cold weather, and you have to make sure they are well taken care of.  Avoid cold rooms, drafty windows, leaving instruments in the car, etc!  Aside from getting out of tune, your instrument could easily develop a crackseam-rip, or worse!

I'm always happy to tune an instrument, even if it's not a String Tech or Orchestra day ... just drop it off with me in the morning and I'll have it ready for you by the end of the day :).  Also, if you have any questions regarding keeping your instrument safe during the colder months, please let me know!

Have any Instrument Issues?  As a reminder ... if you rent from Music & Arts or Zeswitz, we can take care of any issues right here in school!  Both companies send representatives to GVMS each week, and we can take care of any repairs, switching instrument sizes, etc. through those reps.  As always, please let me know if you have any questions about renting/repairing/purchasing instruments or supplies!

Orchestra Gear:  In each Course Description, you'll find a list of recommended "Orchestra Gear" for students.  This list is not, by any means, a requirement ... but the items listed are what I consider to be "most important" gear for students to be successful.  If you have any questions about what to buy, where to buy it, or what brands may be best, please feel free to reach out!

Orchestra Schedule:  The Orchestra schedule for this week is as follows ......

       MondayNo School - MLK Day
Tuesday (Day 5): String Tech (6/7/8) & String Orchestra
Wednesday (Day 6): String Tech (6/7/8) & String Orchestra
       Thursday (Day 1): Symphonic Orchestra
       Friday (Day 2): Symphonic Orchestra

    Good evening students and families!

Below is the WOB for this week.  As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!

This week ...  I will be in school on Monday and Tuesday this week, but I will be out Wednesday-Friday.  Mrs. Byrne and I will be joining the High School Music Department on their trip to Disney World ... full of musical performances throughout the park (and a few rides and Mickey Pretzels thrown is, as well!).

Everything is "business as usual" on Monday/Tuesday, but for the remainder of the week, students will have a Study Hall during scheduled 8th period rehearsals.  This is a great time to check in with other teachers to make up work, catch up on missed assignments, etc.  Please be sure to bring a pass down to 8th period so the substitute knows where you are!  No pass, no leaving :).

It's (Almost) Concert Time!:  It's hard to believe, but we are in the final stretch of preparing for our Winter Concert ... each ensemble only has 3 more rehearsals before the concert!  As a reminder, our Winter Concert is held here at the Middle School on Thursday, January 9th at 6:30pm.

Please be sure to work on challenging spots at home so we are ready to go for our performance!  Parents ... if you could help to encourage at-home practicing as we continue to prepare in school, it would be greatly appreciated!

We will be going over some basic concert info during our rehearsals this week, and we'll be sending home more details as we get closer to the concert.  As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Thursday (Day 3): Chamber Orchestra (Study Hall)
       Friday (Day 4): Half-Day ... no 8th period scheduled

However you celebrate this holiday season, please have a safe, happy, and relaxing break!  Happy Holidays, and see you in 2020!

Private Lessons:  All middle school students should seriously consider taking private lessons outside of school.  The benefits of private study can be seen in school orchestra/lessons, as well as in improved responsibility, time management, and love for music!  I have a list of local private teachers that I would be happy to share with anyone who is interested.  Please contact me if you are interested or have any questions!

Orchestra Schedule:  The Orchestra schedule for this week is as follows ......

       Monday (Day 2): Symphonic Orchestra
       Tuesday (Day 3): Chamber Orchestra
       Wednesday (Day 4): Chamber Orchestra

Friday (Day 6): String Tech (6/7/8) & String Orchestra

    Good evening students and families!

Below is the WOB for this week.  As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!

Class Preparation:  As a reminder, students should be coming to all orchestra classes (both String Tech and 8th period rehearsals) prepared for class with:

    1. Instrument
    2. Music Folder (with String Basics book and all Orchestra music)
    3. A pencil

I have been noticing a significant number of students forgetting to bring their instrument or folder to school, not having a pencil ready to go, etc.  These three items are critical to our success in Orchestra ... please be sure to come to class prepared so we can get right to work!

Parents ... if you could help reinforce this at home as well as assist your children with remembering to have instruments on String Tech &  Orchestra days, it would be greatly appreciated!  Please let me know if you have any questions.
