• Course Descriptions

    6th Grade FCS

    During the 6th grade Family and Consumer Science classes, the students will receive a brief overview of financial and resource management, the balance between family, work, and community responsibilities, food science and nutrition, and child development. The students will create a hand sewing project, participate in food labs, and analyze the ways to keep children safe. Classroom experiences allow students to develop knowledge and skills needed in making choices to meet personal, family, and work responsibilities.

     

    7th Grade FCS

    During 7th grade Family and Consumer Science classes, the students will learn to manage the challenges of living and working in a global society by examining problems encountered in managing resources of time, money, and skills. The students will use this information as they practice construction and caring for textile products to help them evaluate the most beneficial resource to use. Students will use this knowledge of textiles to create a sewing machine project. They will also examine the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of children as it relates to their health and safety.

     

    8th Grade FCS

    During 8th grade Family and Consumer Science classes, the students address how families function and the interrelationships of families with work, community, and society. Students will work together using decisions-making, problem-solving, and communication skills to accomplish tasks and solve significant problems that will be encountered in their lives. Students will explore health risks associated with nutrition and eating disorders; they will also learn skills to prepare nutritious meals. The students’ experiences in Family and Consumer Science will allow students to develop the knowledge and skills needed in making choices to meet their personal, family, and work responsibilities.
