Get to know Mrs. Kyler !
Thanks for coming and checking out my webpage! My name is Mrs. Kyler and I started teaching here at KDM in 2002. I have loved working for Great Valley and am excited to be a fifth grade teacher. Since 2002 I have taught 3rd grade for 8 years, 4th grade for 2 years and this will be my fourth year in 5th. I feel very fortunate to have experience teaching several grade levels. I know so much about the curriculum and what students learn over time. This helps me to grow their thinking. KDM is like a second home to me and I love coming to work each day. I have made so many wonderful friends here and each day is a fun and exciting experience :)
Now a little about my interests and education
I was born and raised right here in the Great Valley School District attending Charlestown Elementary School and graduating from Great Valley High school. I had such a wonderful educational experience here at Great Valley and am so honored to continue that tradition with my own students. My mom was also a huge inspiration for me in becoming a teacher. She taught 3rd grade at General Wayne Elementary School and I grew up helping and learning from her. After graduating from Great Valley, I attended University of Delaware earning an elementary and special education degree. While at UD, I ran cross country and track for all four years. Becoming involved in extra curricular activities throughout my childhood and into college years has help me to become the well rounded person I am today. I strongly believe in the balance of mental, social and physical health and work hard to maintain that.
Through teaching, I have realized that not only do I enjoy teaching students, but I also enjoy being a student. Since graduating college, I went on to earn a masters degree in Literacy from West Chester University and just this past summer became a certified Reading Specialist. I continue to take graduate level classes and stay up to date on new practices and technologies. (If only the development of technology would slow down a bit- I can't keep up!!)
During my free time I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with my husband, friends and family. My husband, Jason and I love going to the beach in the summer and traveling either within the US or throughout Europe. This summer we stayed more local and introduced to the kids to camping at Lake Raystown and then the beach at Rehoboth, DE. Everyone had a great time!
I am an avid runner and look for reasons to be outside. Our area has so many wonderful, safe and convenient places to have outdoor fun! Valley Forge Park is one of my favorite places to both run, hike or even picnic.
I hope you have enjoyed learning a little more about me and I am looking forward to getting to know you this year!!
