One of the most important parts of Reader's Workshop is that your child reads books that are on their level. At the beginning of the year, each student was leveled based on the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Leveling System. This level represents a guide for the students when they are trying to find just right books to read.
Students may read books that are not in their level, but they will have a better understanding of the book and will probably enjoy reading more when they read books on or close to their level. For example, an O level reader may find success reading a P level book. However, the farther away from an O level they get, the less likely they will comprehend the book at a critical level.Any book read for Reader's Workshop that is not at the student's assessed level should be approved by that student's teacher. At the top of this page is a set of links that will help you find fiction books at each level. These links will take you to an online book catalog that organizes their books using the Fountas and Pinnell Leveling System. We hope that you find these lists helpful when trying to find just right books.
