Making the Grade
When students ask me what they can do to improve their grade, my response is always the same, "Learn the material and your grade will take care of itself!"
I don't curve my grades, and I don't "give" extra credit. Both of these diminish student accountability and ultimately inflate grades. Also, it is the rare case when a concerted effort by the student will not raise their grade.
However, if a student is having difficulty with the material in class, I am always willing to spend additional time with that student either before or after school.
