AP Latin and Latin 5 students have the privilege of reading and considering Vergil's Aeneid, one of the greatest and most influentialworks of Western literature. Students read a hefty amount in Latin and what we can't get to in Latin, we read in RobertFitzgerald's poetic translation in English.Immediately after its completion in 19 BCE, the Aeneid became extremely popularand the basis for all educated children's schooling. The Aeneid , amazingly, remained a central element in Western educationsince Roman times.
