    On the 2nd of November, HBO's series "The Pacific" was released on DVD. We provide a series of biographies about the main characters of the story:

    THE U.S. ELECTIONS

     

    Americans went to the polls on November 2nd. It was only ninety years ago that the 19th Amendment gave U.S. women the right to vote. This month, in honor of the suffragettes who fought so hard to give American women the right to vote, we are featuring the "back story" on how the 19th Amendment came about. The devotion which these women displayed, and the extent of their mistreatment in the process, may surprise you.

     

    LEO TOLSTOY - 100th ANNIVERSARY of HIS DEATH

     

    November 20th marks the centenary of Leo Tolstoy's death. People are commemorating Tolstoy, worldwide, this month. We honor his memory with a rare video from the last year of his life. Released from the Russian State Archives, this clip also contains our English translations for all the inter-titles (which are written in Russian).

    "BOARDWALK EMPIRE"

     

    The new HBO series, "Boardwalk Empire," takes us back to the days of Prohibition. Atlantic City was a booming town then, and people regularly disregarded the law banning alcoholic beverages. Based on historical (and fictional) characters, the series attempts to dramatize what life was like at the time. We provide background on the time and the people, including:
