• Applying for Alternative Physical Education

     What are the windows of time for applying to fall and/or spring ALT PE?

    Fall – The applications must be submitted in the school year prior to participation. Fall applications are posted in late March. The deadline for submitting the application (Appendix A) is 11:59 PM on June 1st.

    Spring – The application is posted in late September. The deadline for submission of the application (Appendix A) is 11:59 PM on November 1st.

    Consideration will be given to newly enrolled students.

    What are the time frames, within each semester, for accruing hours for alternative physical education?

    Fall – First semester ALT PE hours can be accumulated beginning the first day of the current school year, and continue through January 10th.

    Spring – Second semester ALT PE hours can be accumulated beginning the first day of second semester, and continue through May 10th.

    *Please note: Any activity hours earned for the semester MUST fall within the time frame above. If there is a need to change this rule for any given semester, the change will be communicated to parents and students through email. Credit cannot be given for participation in an activity outside of the approved dates.

    How does the application process work?

    The application process is different based on whether a student seeks credit for a Great Valley sponsored activity, or if the student seeks credit for an activity not sponsored by Great Valley School District.

    GVSD Sponsored Activities:

    *           Complete the digital application, which will be found as a link in a School Messenger email.

    *           Once complete, the student is enrolled, and no further action is required.

    *           An email confirmation will be sent to students and parents, at the completion of every step of the process. Students should keep these emails for their records.

    Activities Not Sponsored by GVSD:

    *           Complete the digital application, which will be found as a link in a School Messenger email.

    *           The application is automatically sent to the sponsoring coach, at the email address listed on the form, for the coach’s approval.

    *           After the sponsoring coach approves, the application is automatically sent to the supervisor of ALT PE at the high school for his approval.

    *           An email confirmation will be sent to students and parents, at the completion of every step in the process. Students should keep these emails for their records.

    Can I apply for one activity that lasts the entire school year?

    No, students must apply for the program each semester, and a new application must be submitted.

    Can I apply for two activities in one semester?

                  Yes, but the activities must be different, and they will each require a separate application.

    Can I apply for two activities in order to combine the hours to equal the 35-hour requirement?

                  Yes, but the activities must be different, and they will each require a separate application.

    Can I switch the activity for which I registered?

    In most cases, the answer is “no.” The activity on the application must be fully completed in order to receive ALT PE credit.

    What do I do if my coach says he/she did not receive the email from the GVHS Health/PE department”

    The coach should check email spam, junk, or clutter folders for an email from “GVHS Health/PE Department.” Very often, this is where the email goes.

    It is also possible that there was an error in the spelling of the coach’s email address.
