Is a quick Monday check in with the teacher possible if live instruction isn't possible?
Posted by:Students in grades K-5 participate in a morning meeting on asynchronous Mondays from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
-
What supports are available to classes who are close to the threshold?
Posted by:Classrooms that reach the threshold will be provided with personnel support (e.g. providing aides, etc.) We are also paying close attention to virtual class sizes and will adjust as necessary.
Under normal circumstances, we have had elementary students with 28+ students. In an effort to accommodate virtual requests, we are needing to add a few additional students to virtual classes. Some virtual classes may be 30 students.
-
Are we following class size guidelines for both our hybrid and virtual classes?
Posted by:Yes, we are cognizant of class size guidelines.
-
Is time better spent educating students in core instructional areas, rather than special areas?
Posted by:There are academic standards under chapter 4 that address special areas. Additionally, many of the things that students learn in core instructional areas are able to be applied in special areas.
-
What is the plan to ensure that all students get to participate in all special areas?
Posted by:We found that the 6-week rotation schedule was the most instructionally sound way for students to experience special areas. We are working with elementary administrators and special areas teachers to ensure that students who experienced a teacher change still have an opportunity to experience all special areas.
-
Will there be enhancements to the structure of and expections for asynchronous days?
Posted by:As students increase their stamina and build their independence, parents may see the number of assignments or length of time that an assignment takes increase. Students may also begin bringing home more workbooks and completing more hands-on assignments.
-
How will students access their teacher for support on asynchronous days?
Posted by:Elementary teachers are available on Monday morning. Students or parents can reach out and request a meeting time to chat. Additionally, teachers will be scheduling one on ones with students and small groups on Mondays. Mondays will also be days during which students receive supplemental services, such as occupational therapy, reading support, or gifted services.
-
Have you considered making Monday a day for all students to interact virtually with their teacher?
Posted by:Yes, we have considered that and are continuing conversations.
-
What is the rationale behind the structure of the hybrid schedule?
Posted by:We took into consideration many of the medical recommendations given to us. The first consideration is capacity. We determined that we could safely get students in (6 feet apart) at 50% capacity.
-
If a whole class must quarantine , would all students be virtual with their own home room teacher?
Posted by:Yes. In a situation like this, we would instruct everyone virtually until they can return to school.
-
If I have chosen hybrid learning and want to switch to virtual learning, can I do that?
Posted by:Yes. A student can move from hybrid to virtual learning at any time. Please contact your school.
-
Will hybrid students at the secondary level log into classes on the days when they are home?
Posted by:Yes. Students at the secondary level will participate in their classes from home on their virtual learning days. They will join their classes remotely to participate in live instruction via the computer. The teacher will interact with students who are physically in class that day, as well as with students who are joining from home.
-
How will students be grouped for hybrid learning?
Posted by:The days of attendance are determined by the family’s last name. Students with the last name beginning A-K will attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays; L through Z will attend on Wednesdays and Fridays.
-
What does the hybrid schedule look like?

-
What is the schedule for bringing students back to school in the hybrid model?
Posted by:GVSD will use a phase in model for bringing students back to school in the hybrid model. This phased in reopening allows our schools to adjust to new operations, while also prioritizing our youngest learners and those who are transitioning to a new school. Please see the return schedule on our website.
-
What does hybrid mean?
Posted by:The hybrid model means that approximately half of the students whose families choose that option for their child’s learning will attend school on Tuesdays and Thursdays; the remaining half will attend on Wednesdays and Fridays. The days of attendance are determined by the family’s last name. On remaining weekdays, students will work from home, with Mondays remaining as a common asynchronous day for all students.
-
What happens when a hybrid elementary student needs to quarantine for two weeks or more?
Posted by:Our approach will do everything possible to not change teachers when a child has to quarantine. In these instances, the student may be supported with asynchronous assignments while the teacher/aide checks in with the child periodically. Much of what we do will depend on how the child feels and whether or not the child is up to learning and doing school work.
