Welcome to 6th Grade Science!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We, as a sixth-grade science team, are excited to welcome you to the middle school! This year is sure to be a unique experience, and we are here to support you and your child. The structure of our class will be a blend of synchronous and asynchronous lessons and activities pertaining to physical science. We will cover four units, including an introduction to science, environment, chemistry, and physics.
Throughout the year, the science teachers work collaboratively to teach the content and occasionally blend the classes. Because of this, students could potentially work with each of the teachers, and we would like to tell you a little bit about ourselves.
Mrs. Bergen is starting her second-year teaching in the middle school science department at Great Valley. With previous experience in instructional technology, she enjoys using technology to bring science to life. She lives in Berks County with her husband and dog, Jax. Most summers, she enjoys attending concerts and live music events and can’t wait to be able to do it again.
Beginning his twenty-second year of teaching, Mr. Brogan has been a part of Great Valley’s science department for fifteen years. He also coaches the middle school boys' soccer team and leads the after-school guitar club. He has two, active sons who keep him and his wife very busy. In his free time, he is continuing to learn to play the piano and guitar.
We’d like to extend a warm welcome to Ms. McKendrick, who is joining our team this year. She recently graduated from West Chester University, where she served as a year-long Professional Development School Intern at E.N. Peirce Middle School. While at WCU, she studied abroad twice in South Africa. Outside of the classroom, she loves spending time with her dog, Hazel, who she recently adopted from the Brandywine Valley SPCA.
As we begin our year, we are encouraging our families to save recyclable materials that students can use to create projects at home. For example, paper towel rolls, tissue boxes, cardboard, and newspaper can all make great building materials.
If you have any questions, please contact us via email. Our individual email addresses can be found below.
We look forward to a great school year!
