FAQs
How do I know if my child is ready for kindergarten?
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) recommends that kindergarten entry should be based on age, not a mastery of skills. The Great Valley School District Policy states that a student must be 5 years of age by September 1st of the upcoming school year in order for a child to be eligible for kindergarten.
Is an assessment administered to determine my child's readiness or placement?
All kindergarten classrooms are heterogeneously grouped. Principals work to ensure class sizes remain within the recommended guidelines. Instruction is differentiated based on the needs of the students in the classroom. Teachers will conduct assessments at the start of the school year to get to know your child as a learner and effectively plan for their instruction moving forward.
