Safety Overview

  • The Great Valley School District is committed to the safety of every student and staff member on our campuses. Our comprehensive safety plan calls us to practice our emergency plans and implement measures to increase the safety of our buildings.

    Currently:

    • The District maintains a variety of active security measures at all times, including locked exterior doors during instructional hours, mandatory check-in procedures at school entrances, video surveillance, and alarms. In recent years, the District has worked to improve locking devices to classroom doors.
    • As part of our comprehensive safety plan, the staff is trained to implement emergency procedures and participate in drills throughout the year.
    • The District and each of our schools has a strong partnership with law enforcement. Law enforcement personnel come into our buildings, regularly participate in the review of our security and emergency procedures, and often join us in drills and tabletop exercises. Our on-staff Safety Director works closely with the Chester County Department of Emergency Management to review our emergency operations plan.

Despite these efforts, we know we are not immune, and we must remain vigilant. Part of that vigilance includes regular review of our plans to identify areas that could be changed, improved, or more regularly practiced.
