Mr. Chris Salerno
I was born and raised in Old Forge, a small town located in northeast Pennsylvania. We may be overlooked on most maps, but are known to many as the "Pizza Capital of the World." Our town of roughly 9,000 people has more than 15 family owned pizza restaurants, each serving its own special recipe for “Old Forge Pizza.”
My wife, Melissa, and I married in 2017 and recently moved to Phoenixville. We are both Harry Potter fans (we became engaged in Olivander's Wand Shop), love cooking and trying new foods, and direct Patriot Glee Camp together in the summer.
I’ve been a proud Penn Stater all my life, so it was only natural that I completed my undergraduate work at Penn State University. I spent my senior year participating in a year-long student teaching internship in the university’s Professional Development School (PDS) program. Being a Penn Stater through and through, I received my master’s degree in educational leadership at Penn State Great Valley in May 2012.
This school year marks my fourteenth year of teaching, all of which (I’m happy to say) have been in Great Valley. I spent my first five years in third and fourth grade at K.D. Markley. I taught fifth grade at General Wayne for two years before coming back to KDM to spend one more year in the same position. My love of reading and storytelling have led to this latest chapter of my teaching career (librarian pun intended...). This school year will be my sixth as KDM's librarian.
Besides teaching, film and music are two passions of mine. You'll see me around school at various events: filming concerts as KDM's "video guy," coaching our Reading Olympics teams and organizing the fith grade Safety Patrol with Mr. Ellis, and directing the fifth grade video club, Script to Screen.
