School News & Highlights
(January 14, 2022) - UPDATE
Water has been fully restored to all schools. As Aqua continues to repair the affected area, Rt. 401 will remain closed between Phoenixville Pike and Moores Road for the duration of the day. Parents should use the main entrance of the MS/HS to pick students up for afternoon dismissal, and are asked not to arrive before 2:50 p.m. to allow time for buses to clear the campus.
Important Information about Masking in GVSD
We are aware that the PA Supreme Court struck down the Acting Secretary of Health’s school masking order, effective December 10, 2021. However, school entities still possess the authority to require masks in their facilities as recommended by the CDC. To be clear:
- In alignment with our Health and Safety Plan, the Great Valley School District will continue to require masks in all schools and facilities.
- Additionally, the PA Supreme Court decision does not impact the federal directive that requires all passengers and drivers to wear a mask on school buses. Masks will continue to be required on all school buses.
We continue to monitor transmission and positivity rates in our community, and regularly consult with the Chester County Health Department. We will continue to communicate updates to our Health and Safety Plan with our school community as they become available.
School Board Meetings
The Great Valley Board of School Directors welcomes the public in person to its meetings. The Board will continue to stream its meetings for those who prefer to watch online. Public comment, however, will only be accepted in person.
Masks are currently required in all GVSD buildings, including the District Office, during all school and non-school related events. This includes our in-person school board meetings.
Masks will be available to meeting attendees who do not bring one. Those wishing to make comment during the public participation portion of a board meeting should leave their mask on when making their comment. As a reminder, public participation is welcomed during school board meetings so the board may hear comments from the public; it is not a question and answer period.
