Tamburitzans!
Our first official
assembly in the new building was a big hit! The Tamburitzans,
a music and dance group from Duquesne University, treated us
with a taste of Eastern European culture. The Tamburitzans have
been performing around the world for more than 60 years, delighting
audiences with their dazzling costumes, powerful music and breathtaking
choreography. The group of 36, dressed in traditional folk costumes,
played instruments and danced to songs from such countries as
Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, and
others. Their lively songs and dances made for an exciting and
memorable experience!

The Tamburitzans began with an introduction to the many
unique, traditional Eastern European instruments, such as the
bandura, tambura, gadulka, and cimbalom. |
|

The group then entertained us with their fancy
footwork. |

Several students learned how to do a "Hat Dance",
which is much like the familiar musical chairs game. |

Here is the Hat Dance in action by the professionals. |

The group finished with a lively Wedding Dance, then met each
class on their way out of the assembly to shake hands and say
goodbye.
